Day 1: Arrival in Les Houches

You arrive in Les Houches and meet your guide and fellow hikers at 6pm for a welcome briefing. This is the chance to go over the itinerary, ask any last questions and get to know the group before the trek begins.

Day 2

Day 2: Les Houches - Les Contamines

Col de Tricot - Tour du Mont Blanc

The trek begins with a cable car ride up to Bellevue, giving you an effortless gain of altitude and your first close-up views of the Bionnassay glacier. From here, you descend to the Col de Tricot - a dramatic crossing above the glacial torrent with Mont Blanc towering above. The trail continues through forest and alpine meadows with outstanding views of the Mont Blanc massif before dropping down into the charming village of Les Contamines.

Day 3: Les Contamines - Les Chapieux

Col du Bonhomme - Tour du Mont Blanc

A transfer takes you to Notre Dame de la Gorge, a historic chapel marking the start of the old Roman road into the mountains. You climb steadily through alpine pastures and rocky terrain to the Col du Bonhomme, then press on to the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme. This is a big mountain day with wide-open landscapes, cascading streams and views stretching across the Beaufortain range. The descent leads into the remote valley of Les Chapieux.

Day 4: Les Chapieux - Courmayeur (Italy)

Col de la Seigne - Crossing into Italy

A short bus transfer takes you to Ville des Glaciers, from where you begin the climb toward Col de la Seigne. This is one of the iconic moments of the TMB - as you crest the col, you cross from France into Italy and the panorama opens up dramatically. The Grandes Jorasses, the Aiguilles de Peuterey and the Italian flank of Mont Blanc fill the horizon. You descend through Val Veny before a transfer brings you into the lively Italian town of Courmayeur.

Day 5: Courmayeur - La Fouly (Switzerland)

La Fouly - Swiss Val Ferret

A transfer takes you into the Italian Val Ferret, from where you begin the ascent toward the Grand Col Ferret. As you gain altitude, the views of the Mont Blanc massif behind you become increasingly spectacular. Crossing the col brings you into Switzerland, with the Combins massif and Grand Combin glacier ahead. Day 6: La Fouly - Champex

Champex - Tour du Mont Blanc

Day 7: Champex - Trient

Bovine trail - Tour du Mont Blanc

Leaving Champex, you climb through alpine pastures to reach the Col de Bovine balcony trail - a spectacular high path with sweeping views over the Rhone Valley far below and the Bernese Alps on the horizon. The trail traverses open hillsides before a long descent through forest brings you down to the small village of Trient, tucked into a quiet valley beneath the Trient glacier.

Day 8: Trient - Argentiere (France)

Col de la Balme - Return to France

Today you cross the Col de la Balme and return to France. The climb from Trient winds through alpine meadows, and from the col you are rewarded with a panoramic view of the Mont Blanc massif and the Aiguille Verte. The descent takes you past the old border huts and down into the Chamonix valley, arriving at the village of Argentiere beneath the impressive Argentiere glacier.

Day 9: Argentiere - Chamonix

Lac Blanc - Chamonix

The final full day of hiking takes you along the Balcon des Aiguilles Rouges, one of the most scenic trails in the Alps. You climb to Lac Blanc at 2,352 m, where the reflection of Mont Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses in the still water creates an unforgettable panorama. After taking in the views, you descend to the La Flegere cable car station for the ride down into the Chamonix valley.

How difficult is the TMB 10-Day Guided trek?

The Tour du Mont Blanc is rated as a medium-difficulty trek (3/5). A good level of fitness and some experience with mountain hiking are recommended.

How far in advance should I book?

We strongly recommend booking several months ahead. The TMB is one of the most popular treks in the Alps and guided group places fill up quickly, especially for July and August departures. Early booking ensures you get your preferred dates.

Can I join alone as a solo hiker?

Yes, guided group departures are open to solo travellers. You join a group of 4 to 14 hikers accompanied by 1 or 2 certified mountain guides throughout the trek. It is a great option if you want the social experience of a group and the expertise of a professional guide.

How does luggage transport work?

Your main bag (maximum 15 kg) is transported between accommodation each day by vehicle. You hike with just a daypack carrying water, your picnic lunch and a warm layer. Your luggage is waiting for you when you arrive at each evening's hotel or lodge.
