Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Les Houches
You arrive in Les Houches and meet your guide and fellow hikers at 6pm for a welcome briefing. This is the chance to go over the itinerary, ask any last questions and get to know the group before the trek begins.
No hiking today.
Night at a 3-star hotel in Les Houches.
Day 2: Les Houches - Les Contamines
The trek begins with a cable car ride up to Bellevue, giving you an effortless gain of altitude and your first close-up views of the Bionnassay glacier. From here, you descend to the Col de Tricot - a dramatic crossing above the glacial torrent with Mont Blanc towering above. The trail continues through forest and alpine meadows with outstanding views of the Mont Blanc massif before dropping down into the charming village of Les Contamines.
Night at a 4-star hotel in Les Contamines.
Day 3: Les Contamines - Les Chapieux
A transfer takes you to Notre Dame de la Gorge, a historic chapel marking the start of the old Roman road into the mountains. You climb steadily through alpine pastures and rocky terrain to the Col du Bonhomme, then press on to the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme. This is a big mountain day with wide-open landscapes, cascading streams and views stretching across the Beaufortain range. The descent leads into the remote valley of Les Chapieux.
Night at a mountain lodge in Les Chapieux.
Day 4: Les Chapieux - Courmayeur (Italy)
A short bus transfer takes you to Ville des Glaciers, from where you begin the climb toward Col de la Seigne. This is one of the iconic moments of the TMB - as you crest the col, you cross from France into Italy and the panorama opens up dramatically. The Grandes Jorasses, the Aiguilles de Peuterey and the Italian flank of Mont Blanc fill the horizon. You descend through Val Veny before a transfer brings you into the lively Italian town of Courmayeur.
Night at a 3-star hotel in Courmayeur.
Day 5: Courmayeur - La Fouly (Switzerland)
A transfer takes you into the Italian Val Ferret, from where you begin the ascent toward the Grand Col Ferret. As you gain altitude, the views of the Mont Blanc massif behind you become increasingly spectacular. Crossing the col brings you into Switzerland, with the Combins massif and Grand Combin glacier ahead. The descent through Swiss alpine pastures leads to the quiet village of La Fouly in the heart of the Swiss Val Ferret.
Night at a 3-star hotel in La Fouly.
Day 6: La Fouly - Champex
A gentler day through the Swiss Val Ferret valley, passing through traditional alpine villages with their wooden chalets and flower-filled balconies. The trail follows the valley floor and gentle hillsides, offering a welcome change of rhythm after the high passes of previous days. You arrive at Champex, a small resort village set beside a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by forests.
Night at a 3-star hotel in Champex.
Day 7: Champex - Trient
Leaving Champex, you climb through alpine pastures to reach the Col de Bovine balcony trail - a spectacular high path with sweeping views over the Rhone Valley far below and the Bernese Alps on the horizon. The trail traverses open hillsides before a long descent through forest brings you down to the small village of Trient, tucked into a quiet valley beneath the Trient glacier.
Night at a mountain lodge in Trient.
Day 8: Trient - Argentiere (France)
Today you cross the Col de la Balme and return to France. The climb from Trient winds through alpine meadows, and from the col you are rewarded with a panoramic view of the Mont Blanc massif and the Aiguille Verte. The descent takes you past the old border huts and down into the Chamonix valley, arriving at the village of Argentiere beneath the impressive Argentiere glacier.
Night at a 3-star hotel in Argentiere.
Day 9: Argentiere - Chamonix
The final full day of hiking takes you along the Balcon des Aiguilles Rouges, one of the most scenic trails in the Alps. You climb to Lac Blanc at 2,352 m, where the reflection of Mont Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses in the still water creates an unforgettable panorama. After taking in the views, you descend to the La Flegere cable car station for the ride down into the Chamonix valley.
Night at a 4-star hotel in Chamonix.
Day 10: Chamonix - Departure
After a final breakfast at your hotel, the trek comes to an end. You check out and depart at your leisure. If you have time, Chamonix offers plenty to explore - from the Aiguille du Midi cable car to the town's many outdoor shops and cafes.
No hiking today.
