TMB Refuges - Frequently Asked Questions
What types of rooms do TMB refuges offer?
Most refuges have dormitories with bunk beds: for example 4, 6 or 8 beds at the Relais d'Arpette, 16 at Rifugio Bertone. Some refuges also offer private rooms, such as Bonatti's rooms with 2 to 4 beds. Bring your own sleeping bag liner: strongly recommended and often requested, it is compulsory in dormitories at Bonatti and Arpette. Blankets are provided.
How far in advance should I book a refuge?
Bookings for summer 2027 open on 15 October 2026 for all refuges in the TMB hut wardens' association, and the most popular ones are often full several months ahead.
Do refuges accept credit cards?
Some do, but not all: Les Mottets, for example, does not accept credit cards. Carry cash in euros and Swiss francs for extras.
What is the food like in TMB refuges?
The food is one of the highlights of the trek. Half-board (bed, dinner, and breakfast) is the standard formula: expect 65 to 90 EUR$75 to $104 per person in a dormitory (2026-2027 rates), for example 65 EUR$75 at Les Mottets (large dormitory, 2027) and 90 EUR$104 at Lac Blanc.
